17-hydroxyprogesterone

• The patient does not need to fast. It is recommended to drink a glass of water approximately 30 minutes before the examination.
• 17-OH Progesterone is secreted in a circadian rhythm, so blood is best collected between 8:00 and 10:00 a.m., unless your doctor tells you otherwise.
• The material for testing is blood.

• The test should be performed in the early follicular phase, i.e. 1-6 days after menstruation.

A precursor of cortisol, it has natriuretic properties. It is produced in the adrenal glands, ovaries, testes, and placenta.
Indications for testing include: steroid biosynthesis disorders, precocious puberty, virilization symptoms in women, hirsutism, androgen-producing tumors, and growth disorders
. It is used to diagnose adrenogenital syndrome.
