Preparation for the study

General

The patient does not need to be fasting.About 30 minutes before the test, it is advisable to drink a glass of water or bitter(unsweetened) tea.
17-OH Progesterone is secreted in a diurnal rhythm, so blood is best taken between 08:00 and 10:00 in the morning, unless otherwise advised by your doctor.
The test material is blood.

The test should be performed in the early follicular phase, i.e. 1-6 days after menstruation.

Description

A precursor of cortisol, has natriuretic properties. Produced in the adrenal glands, ovaries, testes, placenta.
Indications for determination are: disorders of steroid biosynthesis, precocious puberty, symptoms of virilization in women, hirsutism, androgen-producing tumors, growth disorders
. It is used to diagnose adrenal-genital syndrome.
