Preparation for the study

General

The test material is blood.
The patient does not need to be fasting.About 30 minutes before the test, it is advisable to drink a glass of water or bitter(unsweetened) tea.

Important

Samples brought from outside are not accepted for testing.

Description

A peptide hormone secreted by the corticotropic cells of the pituitary gland. Subject to diurnal rhythm, the highest concentration is reached in the morning hours, the lowest in the evening hours.

Significance of the test: adrenal insufficiency, adrenal hyperadrenocorticism: differential diagnosis of ACTH-dependent and -independent adrenal hyperadrenocorticism.

Abnormal values: adrenal insufficiency, adrenal hyperadrenocorticism.
