Preparation for the examination
General
- The material for testing is blood.
- The patient does not need to fast. It is recommended to drink a glass of water approximately 30 minutes before the examination.
Important
Samples brought from outside are not accepted for testing.
Description
A peptide hormone secreted by the corticotroph cells of the pituitary gland. It follows a circadian rhythm, reaching its highest concentration in the morning and its lowest in the evening.
Significance of the test: adrenal insufficiency, hyperadrenocorticism; differential diagnosis of ACTH-dependent and -independent hyperadrenocorticism.
Abnormal values: adrenal insufficiency, hyperadrenocorticism.
