Description
Heparin anti-Xa activity is determined to monitor blood levels of heparin in
patients with coagulation disorders ( hypercoagulability) treated with unfractionated heparin, standard ( UFH), low molecular weight ( LMWH) or factor Xa inhibitors ( e.g. rivaroxaban). The study is designed to monitor and optimize the dose of anticoagulant used during treatment. During the test, the concentration of heparin in the blood is indirectly measured by measuring the inhibition of the activity of factor Xa-one of the proteins involved in the clotting process.
Indications for monitoring heparin treatment with the test: Anti-Xa activity are pregnancy, obesity and renal failure.
