Preparation for the examination

General

  • The material for testing is blood.
  • Approximately 30 minutes before the examination, it is recommended to drink 1 glass of water only.
  • The patient must fast for at least 12 hours after consuming the last meal, unless the doctor recommends otherwise (e.g. performing the test after a meal)
  • Before the test you may only drink water.
  • You should not drink coffee, flavored water, drinks such as cola light/cola “zero”, energy drinks, or juices.
  • You should not eat meals, snacks, fruits, vegetables, breath fresheners, chew gum, or smoke cigarettes.
  • The test should not be performed after strenuous physical activity.

Detailed for children

  • For children up to 3 years of age, it is recommended to collect blood half to one hour after feeding.

Important

Factors that may affect test results:
Taken medications, supplements, other substances: Hydroxocobalamin (Cyanokit), Sulfasalazine.
Note:
Dehydration, diet, alcohol, intense exercise, or sample collection method may also affect results. Results should be considered in conjunction with other data, such as clinical symptoms, results of other tests, or clinical diagnosis.
Interference from medications or endogenous substances may affect the obtained results.

Description

ALT is an enzyme present mainly in liver cells, but also in muscle cells, including heart muscle.
When cells are damaged, it is released into the blood in increased amounts.

The importance of the ALT test: it is determined when liver diseases are suspected; and in our conditions, it is also measured alongside other indicator enzymes
>CPK,>LDH in case of suspected myocardial infarction.

Abnormal values ​​of the ALT enzyme: in diseases of the liver parenchyma, in myocardial infarction.
Factors that may influence the test result:
Certain medications (e.g., tetracyclines, sulfonamides) can affect test results. Therefore, whenever possible, blood tests should be performed before taking your morning medication, unless your doctor advises otherwise. Patients should inform the staff about any medications they are taking.

Ordering a test means consent to its performance using the spectrophotometric method.
