AMH (Anti-Mullerian Hormone) is a hormone produced in both women and men. In women, it is produced in the ovarian follicles by cells surrounding eggs ready to grow, making AMH a precise marker of ovarian reserve. Determining AMH levels allows for decisions about treatment methods or planning for childbirth. It also helps predict a woman's menopause. Its levels decline with age, making it a very good marker of fertility decline, including premature ovarian failure. In patients with polycystic ovary syndrome, AMH is significantly elevated.

The AMH level is not dependent on a woman's menstrual cycle, so it can be tested on any day of the cycle.
