Description
AMH (Anti-Mullerian Hormone) is a hormone produced in both women and men. In women, it is produced in the follicles of the ovaries by cells surrounding the ova that are ready to grow, so AMH is a marker that accurately determines ovarian reserve. Determining the AMH level allows you to decide on the method of treatment or planning when to have a child in the family. It also helps predict when a woman will enter menopause. Its level decreases with a woman's age, and is therefore a very good marker of fertility decline, including premature extinction of ovarian function. In contrast, AMH is significantly elevated in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome.
AMH levels are not determined by a woman's menstrual cycle, so they can be tested on any day of the cycle.
