- The test material is blood.
- The patient does not need to be fasting.About 30 minutes before the test, it is advisable to drink a glass of water or bitter(unsweetened) tea.
Description
ASO test is helpful in the diagnosis of diphtheria (scarlet fever), especially in doubtful cases, as well as other diseases caused by streptococci, such as streptococcal angina and rheumatic diseases. ASO is considered as a preliminary part of diagnosis, requires confirmation by other, newer and more sensitive methods.
Abnormal values of ASO: indicate streptococcal allergy (scarlet fever, angina), after treatment with streptokinase.
