Preparation for the examination

General

  • The material for testing is blood.
  • Approximately 30 minutes before the examination, it is recommended to drink 1 glass of water only.
  • The patient must fast for at least 12 hours after consuming the last meal, unless the doctor recommends otherwise (e.g. performing the test after a meal)
  • You should not drink coffee, flavored water, drinks such as cola light/cola “zero”, energy drinks, or juices.
  • You should not eat meals, snacks, fruits, vegetables, breath fresheners, chew gum, or smoke cigarettes.
  • The test should not be performed after strenuous physical activity.

Detailed for children

  • For children up to 3 years of age, it is recommended to collect blood half to one hour after feeding.

Important

Factors that may affect test results:
Taking medications, supplements, and other substances: hydroxocobalamin (Cyanokit), temozolomide, and dyslipidemia (hypertriglyceridemia).
Note:
Dehydration, diet, alcohol, intense exercise, or sample collection method may also affect results. Results should be considered in conjunction with other data, such as clinical symptoms, results of other tests, or clinical diagnosis.
Interference from medications or endogenous substances may affect results.

Description

Contained in liver cells, muscle cells (skeletal, cardiac), and kidneys. The significance of the AST test: it indicates damage to liver cells, muscle cells, and heart muscle. It is measured in cases of suspected liver disease, and alongside CPK and LDH in cases of suspected myocardial infarction. Abnormal AST values: liver, muscle, and kidney disease, myocardial infarction, and damage to larger muscle mass.
Factors that may influence the test result:
The test should not be performed after strenuous physical activity.
The patient must fast for at least 12 hours after consuming the last meal, unless the doctor recommends otherwise (e.g. performing the test after a meal).
You should not eat meals, snacks, fruits, vegetables, breath fresheners, chew gum, or smoke cigarettes.
