Preparation
Newborns and infants:
- The test is best performed in physiological sleep (it shortens the test time), but it is not necessary.
Description of the study
The test is performed with a probe placed in the external ear canal. During the examination, a tone of varying intensity is administered into the ear. The test is a painless method to assess the function of the various components of the middle ear and the state of the connections between them (the ossicles), as well as the level of damage to the facial nerve and damage to the brainstem.
