Description of the study

Accommodation pinball machines – the test involves assessing the speed and efficiency of eye accommodation by alternately focusing on images from near and far.
The patient observes text placed approximately 40 cm away while looking through accommodative pinball glasses with a power of +/- 2.00 Dsph. The patient turns the pinball glasses over when the image becomes clear, and the specialist records the number of complete cycles (switching from positive to negative and vice versa) completed in one minute.
The result is an objective measure of the speed of the accommodative reaction.
The description of this test is given in cycles per minute, e.g.: 7 cycles/min.

Hart charts – this test uses two Hart charts: a small chart held in the hand (40 cm away) and a large chart mounted on the wall (3–5 m away).
The patient observes and reads aloud the lines on the charts alternately – one line from the near chart, then one line from the far chart. The specialist records the number of complete near-to-far gaze cycles maintained in focus per minute.
The result is a measure of the efficiency and speed of the eye's accommodation under diagnostic conditions.
The description of this test is given in cycles per minute, e.g., 7 cycles/min.
