The tumor suppressor gene TP53 (formerly p53), called the "guardian of the genome," is involved in the control of proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis. Deletion of this gene is frequently detected in chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and multiple myeloma, and is associated with a poor prognosis."
