- The patient should be healthy. A cold and especially an elevated temperature will affect the result of the semen test.
- Before donating semen for testing, the patient should maintain sexual abstinence for 2 to 7 days (optimal 3-4 days, but no longer than 7 days)
and alcohol abstinence from 2 to 7 days (min. 2 days). - Antibiotic treatment affects the result of the semen test. The patient should wait min. 2 weeks after the last dose of antibiotics.
- It is advisable to donate semen on site. It is possible to deliver semen in a sterile container,or such as for urine analysis (within no more than 1 hour after donation, transported at body temperature - important!).
- The material can be brought and donated only at the facility located in Lublin at 7 Orkana Street during designated hours.
- The material for the test is obtained through masturbation. Ejaculate cannot be obtained by intermittent intercourse or from a condom. Semen is donated directly into a disposable container obtained at the collection point.
Important
After a vasectomy, semen testing can only be done on a baseline basis.
Description
The examination includes evaluation of physicochemical and biophysical properties of semen, microscopic evaluation of spermatozoa - structure, percentage and type of movement of spermatozoa, vitality evaluation - percentage of living spermatozoa, HOST- evaluation of continuity of sperm cell membrane.
Microscopic evaluation of the preparation after special staining- morphological structure ( morphological evaluation ).
An additional test in the treatment of infertility caused by sperm agglutination is MAR-TEST detecting autoantibodies coated on spermatozoa.
The purpose of the test is to assess the ability of the
fertilizing ability of a man.
The test is performed according to WHO standards/standards.
