Preparation for the examination
General
- The material for testing is blood.
- The patient does not need to fast. It is recommended to drink a glass of water approximately 30 minutes before the examination.
Important
Czynniki mogące wpływac na wynik badania: gammapatie, w szczególności typu IgM (makroglobulinemia Waldenströma),dyslipidemie. Przyjmowane leki, suplementy, inne substancje: dekstran w zakresie stężeń terapeutycznych, Azlocylina, Doksorubicyna.
Uwaga:
Na wyniki mogą wpływać także odwodnienie, dieta, alkohol, intensywny wysiłek lub sposób pobrania próbki. Wyniki powinny być rozpatrywane w połączeniu z innymi danymi, takimi jak np.: objawy kliniczne, wyniki innych badań czy rozpoznanie kliniczne

Total protein includes all blood proteins. Protein separation is possible thanks to protein electrophoresis.
Due to the ability of proteins to bind water, discrepancies in protein amounts may result from altered hydration (in which case the hematocrit is changed).
The significance of the test: information about the total amount of protein in the body, indicates kidney damage (proteinuria).
Abnormal values: liver disease, extreme malnutrition, kidney disease.
Factors that may influence the test result:
High protein concentrations may be observed in cases of severe dehydration.
Low protein levels may be caused by conditions such as nephrotic syndrome, massive bleeding, impaired protein absorption, severe burns, salt retention syndromes, and acute protein malnutrition.
