General
- The material for testing is blood.
- The patient does not need to fast. It is recommended to drink a glass of water approximately 30 minutes before the examination.
Description
Lyme disease is an infectious disease caused by the spirochete Borrelia, transmitted by the bite of one of several tick species. The primary vector in Europe is the Ixodes pacificus tick. Most infections occur in the summer months and typically have a triphasic course.
The presence of IgM antibodies in the blood indicates an ongoing disease process.
Current recommendations for the diagnosis of tick-borne diseases recommend testing for Borrelia antibodies no sooner than
4-6 weeks after the bite.
