Preparation for the study
General
- The test material is blood.
- The patient does not need to be fasting.About 30 minutes before the test, it is advisable to drink a glass of water or bitter(unsweetened) tea.
Description
Lyme disease is an infectious disease caused by the Borrelia spirochete, transmitted by the bite of a representative of one of several tick species. The main vector in Europe is Ixodes pacificus ticks. Most infections occur during the summer months and usually have a three-phase course.
The presence of IgM class antibodies in the blood indicates a disease process currently underway.
Current recommendations for the diagnosis of tick-borne diseases recommend testing for Borrelia antibodies at the earliest
4-6 weeks after a bite.
