Preparation for the examination
General
- The material for testing is blood.
- The patient does not need to fast. It is recommended to drink a glass of water approximately 30 minutes before the examination.
Important
Samples brought from outside are not accepted for testing.
Description
This test detects infections with the Borrelia burgdorferi bacteria.
Borrelia burgdorferi is a tick-borne bacterium. In humans, it can cause Lyme disease, a disease characterized by nonspecific symptoms affecting the central nervous system, joints, and heart in its chronic phase.
Reliable PCR diagnostics allow for the initiation of appropriate treatment.
The test can be performed within 24 hours of the bite (up to two weeks after the bite).
Anti-Borrelia IgM antibody levels should be measured four weeks after the bite.
