Preparation for the examination
General
- The material for testing is blood.
- The patient does not need to fast. It is recommended to drink a glass of water approximately 30 minutes before the examination.
Important
Samples brought from outside are not accepted for testing.
Description
The test detects mutations in the BRCA1 genes, which predispose women to breast or ovarian cancer. The test is intended for women with a family history of breast or ovarian cancer.
Detection of a mutation (>1% of women) is an indication for more frequent screening and elimination of other risk factors (e.g., smoking, stress, hormone therapy).
Recent reports indicate that BRCA gene mutations can also cause other cancers, including prostate and pancreatic cancer.
