BRCA2

• The material for testing is blood.
• The patient does not need to fast. It is recommended to drink a glass of water approximately 30 minutes before the examination.

Samples brought from outside are not accepted for testing.

The test detects mutations in the BRCA 2 gene that predispose to breast or ovarian cancer; the test is intended for women with a family history of breast or ovarian cancer.

It is estimated that carrying a BRCA1 gene mutation has a 70% chance of developing breast cancer and a 40% chance of developing ovarian cancer. This translates to a 10-fold greater chance of developing breast cancer and a 20-fold greater risk of developing ovarian cancer compared to the average woman. The risk associated with a BRCA2 gene mutation is lower, at approximately 56% for breast cancer and 27% for ovarian cancer.

Detection of a mutation (>1% of women) is an indication for more frequent check-ups and elimination of other risk factors (e.g. smoking, stress, hormonal therapy)
