Preparation for the examination
General
- The material for testing is blood.
- The patient does not need to fast. It is recommended to drink a glass of water approximately 30 minutes before the examination.
Description
It is found in normal and malignant breast epithelial cells. Elevated CA 15-3 levels are periodically observed in certain types of breast cancer, some lung cancers, and non-cancerous conditions.
This marker is not suitable for establishing a primary diagnosis. The test is useful for detecting recurrence in stage II and III breast cancer, in remission, and in the management of patients with metastatic breast cancer by monitoring disease progression or treatment susceptibility. Serial CA 15-3 antigen testing should be used in conjunction with other clinical methods for early detection of recurrence in stage II and III disease and for monitoring treatment susceptibility in patients with metastatic breast cancer.
