Chlamydia trachomatis is the most common cause of bacterial sexually transmitted diseases and is responsible for about 50% of cases of non-gonococcal urethritis in men, mucopurulent cervicitis and pelvic organ inflammation in women. The quantitative test is performed using the ELISA immunoenzymatic method, which allows the determination of the concentration of antibodies present in the patient's serum.
The presence of antibodies in the IgM class is indicative of a currently ongoing disease process.
The qualitative test determines the presence of antibodies (IgM) - not their quantity.
