Description
An enzyme that exists in several forms (isoenzymes ) in cardiac muscle and skeletal muscle.
CK enters the blood in increased amounts during damage to muscle cells, e.g.: in myocardial infarction, with intense training.
Elevated levels are also observed under the influence of certain drugs, after epileptic seizures with generalized convulsions, after extensive surgery, childbirth, trauma with massive damage to muscle mass.
Importance of the test: a diagnostic test to help diagnose myocardial infarction, once elevated CK values are found, CK-MB (cardiac fraction) is determined to determine the origin of the enzyme (cardiac or muscle).
One of the tests performed as a screening test in newborns.
Abnormal values: when muscle tissue is damaged, during intense training, crushing, crushing, infection, some muscle diseases, myocardial infarction.
