Cytomegalovirus – genetic testing (qualitative)

• The material for testing is blood.
• The patient does not need to fast. It is recommended to drink a glass of water approximately 30 minutes before the examination.

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a virus from the herpes family that can cause serious illness in both children and adults. CMV resides in the human body for many years and can be transmitted to others. Viral infections are quite common; 60 to 85% of the population has been infected, but in most cases, the infection is asymptomatic. 1 to 3% of women become infected during pregnancy, of which 1 to 2 cases are transmitted to the fetus. Infection is most often asymptomatic, but in approximately 5% of cases, the consequences can be very serious: hepatosplenomegaly, hydrocephalus, microcephaly, and prematurity. Fetal death is common. Even in cases of asymptomatic infection, approximately 10% of children experience serious sensory symptoms, such as deafness or partial or even complete blindness. Detection of anti-CMV IgG antibodies can be useful in estimating the patient's immunoserological status.
