Preparation for the examination
General
- The material for testing is blood.
- The highest hormone activity is observed in the morning hours.
- The patient does not need to fast. It is recommended to drink a glass of water approximately 30 minutes before the examination.
Description
It is a steroid with weak androgenic activity.
Significance of the test: marker of adrenal cortex size, adrenal hirsutism, adrenal cortical tumors, adrenogenital syndrome, differential diagnosis of ovarian and adrenal hypertestosteronemia, virilization, polycystic ovary syndrome, secondary marker of puberty.
Abnormal values: obesity, adrenal cortical adenoma, incidentaloma, adrenal cortical carcinoma, excessive growth after ACTH stimulation.
