Preparation for the study
General
- The test material is blood.
- The highest activity of the hormone is observed in the morning hours.
- The patient does not need to be fasting.About 30 minutes before the test it is advisable to drink a glass of water.
Description
It is a steroid with weak androgenic action.
Significance of the test: marker of adrenal cortex size, hirsutism of adrenal origin, adrenal cortex tumors, adrenal-genital syndrome, differential diagnosis of hypertestosteronemia of ovarian and adrenal origin, virilization, polycystic ovary syndrome, secondary marker of puberty.
Abnormal values: obesity, adrenocortical adenoma, incidentaloma, adrenocortical carcinoma, excessive growth after ACTH stimulation.
