Diabetes is a metabolic disease, which means that the abnormalities associated with it involve metabolism. In the case of diabetes, the abnormalities mainly involve the metabolism of sugars, and are caused by a lack, or insufficient amount, of insulin. There are two types of diabetes - type 1, insulin-dependent diabetes, and type 2, insulin-independent diabetes.

During the advice of Individual Education - Basic knowledge of type 1 and type 2 diabetes - basics of the patient's diet:

• will learn the basic differences between types of diabetes,
• will learn how important a proper diet and lifestyle plays in the prevention and treatment of diabetes.
