Description of the study

Electromyography (EMG) is an examination of the neuromuscular junction in neurological and orthopedic disorders. Electroneurography (ENG) is a preliminary step in EMG testing. An ENG test is performed to determine whether there is damage to the nerve(s) in the arms or legs, especially when experiencing pain, weakness, burning, or tingling. The test also identifies the location of the nerve(s) damaged. The ENG test is complemented by an EMG testEMG examinations also examine muscles if muscle disease is suspected, most often manifesting as pain, weakness, or muscle atrophy.

During an EMG, electrodes are placed on the skin. Sometimes, it's necessary to perform the test using a disposable needle. During an EMG, a needle electrode is inserted into the patient's body near the nerve being tested, which records muscle activity during rest, voluntary movement, and maximum exertion.
