Preparation for the study

General

The test material is blood.
The patient does not need to be fasting.About 30 minutes before the test, it is advisable to drink a glass of water or bitter(unsweetened) tea.

Detailed for women

Blood should be drawn between the 3rd and 5th day of the menstrual cycle unless otherwise instructed by the doctor.

Description

Estradiol belongs to a group of sex hormones called estrogens, produced in the ovaries, during pregnancy in the placenta, in small amounts by the adrenal cortex and in the testes. Estradiol affects the menstrual cycle. It is used as a component of oral contraceptives and preparations used in hormone replacement of the menopausal period.

Importance of the test: hormonal causes of menstrual decline, possibility of detecting ovarian tumor. Abnormal values: endocrine disorders involving sex hormones, ovarian tumor.
