Description
One of the basic tests used in the diagnosis of metabolic bone disorders.
Increased values: renal failure, hypoparathyroidism, pseudohypoparathyroidism, tissue damage, starvation, acidosis, diabetes mellitus, release from bone (malignant tumors), vit. D overdose, phosphate-rich diet.
Decreased values: parenteral nutrition, after recovery from diabetic ketoacidosis, respiratory alkalosis, malabsorption syndrome, diarrhea, long-term use of aluminum preparations, primary and secondary hyperparathyroidism, vit. D-resistant rickets, impaired proximal tubule function, diuretics.
