Preparation for the study
General
- The test material is blood.
- The patient does not need to be fasting.About 30 minutes before the test, it is advisable to drink a glass of water or bitter(unsweetened) tea.
Description
FT4 is a hormone produced by the thyroid gland. It increases carbohydrate metabolism, fat metabolism and protein synthesis.
Increased values: hypothyroidism in the course of thyroxine treatment, thyrotoxicosis, euthyroidism with elevated thyroglobulin (TBG) levels.
Decreased values: hypothyroidism, severe iodine deficiency, euthyroidism with decreased TBG levels.
