General
- The material for testing is blood.
- The patient does not need to fast. It is recommended to drink a glass of water approximately 30 minutes before the examination.
Description
Gamma GT is an enzyme produced primarily in the liver. Its concentration in the blood increases with cell destruction (e.g., bile stasis) and increased production (e.g., alcohol abuse).
Significance of a gamma GT test: indicates damage to the liver parenchyma and bile ducts.
Abnormal values: in liver diseases, and in liver damage caused by drugs and organic solvents (such as carbon tetrachloride).
