Preparation for the examination
General
- The material for testing is blood.
- The patient does not need to fast. It is recommended to drink a glass of water approximately 30 minutes before the examination.
Description
Anti-HBc antibodies are detected shortly after the appearance of the HBsAg surface antigen. Because anti-HBs antibodies may appear with some delay after the disappearance of the HBsAg, they are sometimes the only serological marker of HBV infection and infectivity in the patient's blood. Anti-HBc antibodies may be present in acute and chronic hepatitis B virus infection and may also indicate a previous infection.
