HBc IgM antibodies

• The material for testing is blood.
• The patient does not need to fast. It is recommended to drink a glass of water approximately 30 minutes before the examination.

Anti-HBc antibodies are detected shortly after the appearance of the HBsAg surface antigen. Because anti-HBs antibodies may appear with some delay after the HBs antigen disappears, they are sometimes the only serological marker of HBV infection and infectivity in the patient's blood. The level of IgM antibodies against the viral core antigen will decrease in the event of an acute, uncomplicated infection, while IgG antibodies will persist for years.
NOTE:
Pursuant to the Regulation of the Minister of Health of June 26, 2020 (Journal of Laws of 2020, item 1118), a positive test result must be reported by the laboratory performing the test to the District Sanitary and Epidemiological Station.
