Description
Anti-Hbe antibodies are detectable in recovery from hepatitis B and in HBV carriers who are capable of eliminating the HBe antigen from expression. These antibodies usually persist for years and are an indicator of reduced infectivity and improve prognosis. Treatment of HBeAg-positive patients with alpha-intrerferon can often induce seroconversion by producing anti-HBe antibodies. Monitoring anti-HBe status allows detection of seroconversion, which is important for appropriate treatment of hepatitis B.
