- The material for testing is blood.
- The patient does not need to fast. It is recommended to drink a glass of water approximately 30 minutes before the examination.

Description
The free subunit HCG test is used for early detection and monitoring of pregnancy.
In non-pregnant women, hCG may be produced by trophoblast tumors, tumors
small cell tumors with trophoblastic elements and some tumors
non-trophoblastic.

Unrelated to pregnancy, elevated hCG levels occur in patients
with small cell carcinomas, ovarian, testicular, bladder,
pancreatic, stomach, lung, and liver cancers.
The test is also intended, in combination with other parameters, to assess the risk of trisomy 21 (Down syndrome).
It is a recognized marker for supporting the monitoring of patients with
trophoblastic neoplasms and, together with AFP, patients with
non-seminoma testicular tumors.
