Preparation for the study
General
- The test material is blood.
- The patient does not need to be fasting.About 30 minutes before the test, it is advisable to drink a glass of water or bitter(unsweetened) tea.
Important
Samples brought from outside are not accepted for testing.
Description
The test detects HCV infection, which causes hepatitis C (Hepatitis C). HCV infection can be acute (symptomatic) or often asymptomatic.
Other factors such as alcohol abuse and infection with other viruses can affect the course of the disease. HCV is transmitted through contact with blood and blood products, as well as through sexual contact. The consequence of untreated chronic infection with this virus can be cirrhosis of the liver and even cancer. HCV carriage is relatively high, and is often the result of asymptomatic infection. Early detection, made possible by PCR testing, greatly increases the chances of cure.
