Description

The test is used for the genetic diagnosis of celiac disease.

The HLA-DQ2/DQ8 test has a high negative predictive value, i.e. a negative result more than 99% excludes the disease, while a positive result indicates the disease or a predisposition to the disease.

Only the detection of the complete antigenic molecule, that is, the presence of the α and β subunits of the DQ2/DQ8 antigen, has clinical significance. At the genetic level, this means the simultaneous identification of both alleles encoding the α and β subunits (according to the latest 2012 ESPGHAN recommendations).

The HLA-DQ2/DQ8 test, based on a microarray technique, allows detailed analysis of several different alleles encoding DQ2/DQ8 subunits in a single test.

The HLA-DQ2/DQ8 test detects individual alleles encoding both subunits (α and β) of the DQ2 and DQ8 antigens. This makes it possible to distinguish patients with the complete antigen from those with only one subunit.
