Preparation for the study

General

  • The test material is blood.
  • About 30 minutes before the test, it is recommended to consume water or bitter (unsweetened) tea.
  • Do not drink coffee, flavored water, cola light/ cola "zero" drinks, energy drinks, juices.
  • Do not eat meals, snacks, fruits, vegetables, breath freshening candies, chew gum, smoke cigarettes.
  • The patient must be fasting, at least 12 hours after eating the last meal, unless otherwise instructed by the doctor (e.g., performing the test after a meal)
  • Only plain water or bitter (unsweetened) tea can be drunk before the test.
  • Conducting the test:
1.Blood is taken on an empty stomach to determine the baseline HGH concentration.
2.Glucose solution is administered(a dose of 75 glucose dissolved in 200 ml of warm water)which the patient should drink as soon as possible(up to 10 min).
3.After the patient has consumed the solution, start timing.
3.Blood is taken 30, 60,90 and 120 minutes after glucose administration to determine HGH concentration .

Detailed for infants

  • For children under 3 years of age, it is recommended to draw blood from half to one hour after feeding.

Important

Samples brought from outside are not accepted for testing.
A referral from a doctor is required.
In minors ( under 18 years of age), the glucose load dose must be specified on the referral.
The prescribed glucose dose is given to the patient at our facilities.
The time required for the test is 2h 15 min. You should report for the test in the morning, just after the start of the Intake Point.

Description

Synthesis of growth hormone takes place in the anterior lobe of the pituitary gland from a precursor called preGH. The value of a baseline determination of the hormone is diagnostically small.
Normal values do not rule out disease. Because of the low value of a single serum HGH determination, standardized stimulation and inhibition tests are required, including measurement of HGH. One of these is the glucose loading test (oGGT) for inhibition of HGH secretion.
