Preparation for the study

General

The test material is blood.
The patient does not need to be fasting.About 30 minutes before the test, it is advisable to drink a glass of water or bitter(unsweetened) tea.

Blood should be drawn on the 3rd day of the menstrual cycle, unless otherwise instructed by the doctor.

Description

Inhibin B is used to assess ovarian reserve. It is produced by the granulosa cells of early antral follicles and is secreted primarily during the follicular phase of the menstrual cycle (so it is best to perform the test on day 3 of the monthly cycle). Its concentration in the early follicular phase reflects the number and quality of ovarian follicles. It plays an important role as a prognostic factor in premature expiration of ovarian function and in disorders of hypothalamic origin. Evaluation of inhibin B concentration finds application in assisted reproductive procedures as a predictive factor of ovarian response to ovulation stimulation.
