Inhibin B

• The material for testing is blood.
• The patient does not need to fast. It is recommended to drink a glass of water approximately 30 minutes before the examination.

• Blood should be collected on day 3 of your menstrual cycle, unless your doctor tells you otherwise.

Inhibin B is used to assess ovarian reserve. It is produced by the granulosa cells of early antral follicles and is secreted primarily during the follicular phase of the menstrual cycle (therefore, the test is best performed on day 3 of the menstrual cycle). Its concentration in the early follicular phase reflects the number and quality of ovarian follicles. It plays an important role as a prognostic factor in premature ovarian failure and disorders of hypothalamic origin. Assessing inhibin B concentration is used in assisted reproductive procedures as a predictor of ovarian response to ovulatory stimulation.
