Feces for parasites

• For testing, a hazelnut-sized stool sample should be collected in a disposable container (without transport medium or preservatives).
• Until the stool is delivered to the collection point, the sealed container with the collected material should be stored in a cool place, but not longer than 2 days.
• The container containing the collected material must be signed.

A stool test for parasites allows us to determine the presence of parasites occurring in the digestive tract, such as pinworms, roundworms, tapeworms, whipworms, liver flukes (flukes), adult forms of intestinal strongyloides, and other less common species (e.g. tropical ones).

It is recommended to perform a stool test three times (if the previous results did not detect parasites). The second sample should be collected 2-3 days after the first test.
If the result is still negative, the third stool sample should be collected 7-10 days after the first test.
NOTE:
Pursuant to the Regulation of the Minister of Health of June 26, 2020 (Journal of Laws of 2020, item 1118), if Giardia lamblia is detected, the test result must be reported by the laboratory performing the test to the District Sanitary and Epidemiological Station.
