Description of the study

A colposcopy is a minimally invasive gynecological examination that allows for the assessment of the condition of the cervix. The examination involves viewing the surface of the cervix, the lower part of the cervical canal, the vagina, and the vulva using a device called a colposcope under appropriate lighting and magnification.

The examination helps assess the appearance and condition of the reproductive organs, determine whether there is erosion or infection, and whether further treatment is needed.

It allows for the detection of conditions that are not visible during a conventional gynecological examination, such as precancerous and early cancerous lesions and cervical cancer.

Based on the colposcopic examination, the doctor decides whether further diagnostics are necessary and whether samples should be taken for histopathological evaluation from the affected areas or immediately qualifies the patient for appropriate conservative or surgical treatment.

Contraindications

The test is not performed during menstrual bleeding.
