Preparation for the examination

General

  • The material for testing is blood.
  • The patient does not need to fast. It is recommended to drink a glass of water approximately 30 minutes before the examination.

Important

“Samples brought from outside are not accepted for testing.”.

Description

• This test is a screening test intended for patients who have had contact with an infected person or suspect they have been infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus but have not been tested for this condition. The test should be performed no earlier than 3-4 weeks after potential contact with the virus.

• This is a qualitative test that detects the presence of specific antibodies against the Sars-CoV-2 virus in the IgM and IgG classes. It is performed using an immunochromatographic test and is CE IVD certified.

• The screening test will be useful for patients in generally good health, who do not have autoimmune diseases (e.g. allergies, celiac disease, psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis, autoimmune thyroiditis and enteritis), and who have not been vaccinated in the last six months, including vaccinations against influenza and hepatitis.

• Patients with the above-mentioned clinical conditions should consider performing serological tests using more advanced laboratory techniques in order to exclude false positive results (test available at CM Luxmed – Coronavirus P-bodies anti-SARS-CoV-2 IgM/IgG quantitative package – early immune response and immunity).

• Antibody tests for SARS-CoV-2 are not intended to confirm or rule out ongoing coronavirus infection. They are intended to be a complementary diagnostic tool. Test results should be interpreted taking into account the clinical picture, history, and epidemiological data.

A negative test result does not rule out contact with the virus. It may be obtained when blood was collected during the serological window (the period from the onset of infection to the production of antibodies at a titer detectable by laboratory tests) or in individuals who do not produce antibodies (e.g., those with immunosuppression).

A positive result is highly likely to indicate recent contact with the virus (IgM antibodies) or a past infection (IgG antibodies).
An isolated positive result of IgM antibodies requires verification by another test method (serological test recommended), due to the possibility of cross-reactions with types of coronavirus other than Sars-CoV-2.
