Description
This is a genetic test that detects RNA of viruses that cause upper respiratory tract infections. The test is performed using the Real Time PCR (RT PCR) technique.
Due to similar early symptoms of infection with viruses that attack the respiratory system, the test is important in differentiating infections between coronavirus and influenza or, especially important in children under 2 years of age, RSV infection.
The test should be performed 1-2 days after the onset of clinical symptoms or 5-7 days after contact with an infected person.
The test material is a swab taken from the nasopharynx.
In accordance with current recommendations, the result of the coronavirus test (positive and negative) is reported by the Laboratory to the EWP database.
