Preparation for the examination

General

  • The test material is a nasal swab.
  • The patient does not need to fast.
  • Do not use nasal drops before collecting the material.
  • If an infection is suspected, it is advisable to move and stay in the facility wearing a protective mask to limit the spread of pathogens in the environment.

Detailed for children

  • In children, a nasal swab is taken. The swab is inserted deeper than with standard microbiological swabs.

Important

Samples brought from outside the country will not be accepted for testing.
* Receiving any vaccine does not affect the results of the post-vaccination test.
* Test results are issued in two languages: English and Polish.

Description

The test is intended to confirm infection with the Sars-CoV-2 virus.

The Sars-CoV-2 virus mutation does not affect the test's ability to detect infection.

The test material is a nasal swab.

The test is performed using the BERIGHT test, which is used for qualitative detection of the Sars-CoV-2 antigen.

The sensitivity and specificity of the test compared to the RT-PCR method is:

– sensitivity: 90.4% (at a viral load of 100,000 RNA copies/ml)
– specificity: 99.5%

This test detects an antigen (a protein derived from the interior of the virus cell) that is detectable only when the virus is active and capable of infecting. This occurs in the early stages of infection, sometimes even before symptoms appear.

Interpretation of study results.

A positive test result highly indicates active infection with the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
A negative test result does not rule out infection. Collection can occur when there is no detectable antigen in the body. Therefore, in situations where symptoms or epidemiological factors indicate the possibility of infection, the test should be repeated after 1-2 days with a newly collected sample. If symptoms persist, a negative antigen test result should be verified with a genetic test using the RT-PC method.
In accordance with current recommendations, the antigen test result (positive and negative) is reported by the Laboratory to the EWP database.
