Preparation for the examination

General

  • The material for testing is blood.
  • The patient does not need to fast. It is recommended to drink fluids before the examination.

Important

As part of the study, the glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) is calculated for patients 18 years of age and older.
Factors that may influence test results:
Clinical conditions associated with elevated levels of conjugated bilirubin, unconjugated bilirubin,
glucose, total protein, or triglycerides.
Medications, supplements, and other substances taken: Cephalosporin antibiotics (cefoxitin, cephalothin) and eltrombopag at therapeutically significant concentrations of these substances, acetohexamide, hydroxocobalamin, and methyldopa.
Note:
Dehydration, diet, alcohol, intense exercise, or sample collection method may also influence the results. Results should be considered in conjunction with other data, such as clinical symptoms, results of other tests, or clinical diagnosis.
Interference from medications or endogenous substances may influence the results.
A detailed list of interfering substances is available from the Laboratory upon request (manufacturer's instructions). If in doubt, please contact the laboratory staff.

Description

Creatinine is a byproduct of muscle creatine. With normal kidney function, almost all creatinine is filtered by the glomeruli.
It serves as a marker of glomerular filtration rate. Serum creatinine concentration is independent of either urine volume or diet.

The glomerular filtration rate eGFR is calculated as standard when determining serum creatinine concentration only in adults (>18 years of age).
eGFR is used to determine the amount of plasma filtered per unit of time.

Ordering a test means consent to its performance using the spectrophotometric method.
