Preparation for the examination

General

  • Until the stool is delivered to the collection point, the sealed container with the collected material should be stored in a cool place, but not longer than 2 days.
  • The material for testing is a fresh stool sample (the size of a hazelnut) along with fragments with visible blood, mucus or pus (if present in the stool).
  • The container containing the collected material must be signed.

Important

A meatless diet is not required, as the test detects only human hemoglobin.
The test is not performed during menstruation (at least three days after its completion).
For approximately three days before the test, you should refrain from dental procedures (risk of swallowing blood) and discontinue aspirin.

Description

FIT OC is an innovative immunochemical test for the quantitative detection of fecal occult blood (Quantitative Faecal Immunochemical Tests). This test aids in the diagnosis of rectal bleeding of unknown cause and in the diagnosis of diseases related to digestive system disorders. It is recommended for the early detection of colorectal cancer.

Colorectal cancer is one of the most common cancers in Poland. Each year, 12,000-15,000 patients are diagnosed with the disease. If detected in its early stages, colorectal cancer is fully curable.

The most common symptoms of this disease are abdominal pain, constipation, flatulence, bowel movements, nausea, blood in the stool, and weight loss.

The risk of developing this type of cancer increases with age. It most often affects people between the ages of 50 and 60. The development of colon cancer is influenced by an unhealthy diet high in fat and low in fruits and vegetables, obesity, inactivity, and chronic intestinal inflammation.
In approximately 10% of cases, there is a hereditary predisposition to the disease. Regardless of the underlying cause, early detection is paramount.

Even in the absence of any symptoms, a test for occult blood in the stool should be performed at least once a year using quantitative methods with high specificity and sensitivity, such as the FIT OC-SENSOR tests.
