Description

Whooping cough (old and common name: pertussis) is an acute infectious disease of the respiratory system, characterized by recurrent coughing attacks and prolonged shortness of breath.
The disease is caused by the Bordetella pertussis bacterium. Surviving whooping cough leaves lasting immunity.
IgA antibodies appear in the blood at the earliest stage (from the moment of infection) - i.e. before the appearance of IgM antibodies.

Antibodies against pertussis toxin (anti-PT) are produced specifically after Bordetella pertussis infection. They are present both during infection and after vaccination (PT is a component of many acellular vaccines), therefore it is impossible to distinguish between an immune response after vaccination and an infection. Therefore, results obtained within a year of vaccination with an acellular vaccine are unreliable!
NOTE:
Pursuant to the Regulation of the Minister of Health of June 26, 2020 (Journal of Laws of 2020, item 1118), a positive test result must be reported by the laboratory performing the test to the District Sanitary and Epidemiological Station.
