Description

Whooping cough (formerly and colloquially known as pertussis) is an acute infectious disease of the respiratory system, characterized by recurrent coughing attacks and prolonged shortness of breath.
The disease is caused by the Bordetella pertussis bacterium. Surviving pertussis leaves lasting immunity.
IgG antibodies indicate past infection and acquired immunity to this infectious agent.
The Bordetella pertussis IgG antibody test is NOT used to assess immune status after vaccination, but to diagnose a recent pertussis infection.
NOTE:
Pursuant to the Regulation of the Minister of Health of June 26, 2020 (Journal of Laws of 2020, item 1118), a positive test result is subject to mandatory reporting by the laboratory performing the test to the District Sanitary and Epidemiological Station.
