Preparation for the examination

General

The material for testing is blood.
Approximately 30 minutes before the examination, it is recommended to drink 1 glass of water only.
The patient must fast for at least 12 hours after consuming the last meal, unless the doctor recommends otherwise (e.g. performing the test after a meal)

For children up to 3 years of age, it is recommended to collect blood half to one hour after feeding.

Description

Lipase is an enzyme secreted by the salivary glands, pancreas, liver, small intestinal epithelial cells, and adipose tissue; it breaks down fats.
Pancreatic lipase activity can be measured.

Significance of the test: diagnosis of pancreatitis.

Abnormal values: pancreatitis, kidney disease.
