Preparation for the study

General

The test material is blood.
About 30 minutes before the test, it is recommended to consume water or bitter (unsweetened) tea.
The patient must be fasting, at least 12 hours after eating the last meal, unless otherwise instructed by the doctor (e.g., performing the test after a meal)

Description

Lipase is an enzyme secreted by salivary glands, pancreas, liver, small intestinal epithelial cells and adipose tissue; under its influence, fats are broken down.
It is possible to measure the activity of pancreatic lipase.

Importance of the test: diagnosis of pancreatitis.

Abnormal values: pancreatitis, kidney disease.
